Arches National Park
Arches National Park is located in eastern Utah near Moab. The Arches
National Park is famous for its over 2,000 sandstone "arches".
This is the greatest density of natural sandstone arches in the world.
The Arches National Park has stunning sandstone desert vistas everywhere
and its stark natural beauty draws tens of thousands of visitors each
year. Originally named as a National Monument in 1929, the Arches became
a National Park in 1971.
The Arches National Park has a scenic drive, short and long hiking trails and a campground at Devils Garden. One of the best ways to enjoy the Arches National Park is to take advantage of some of the ranger-led programs. One of the best hikes is the ranger-led hike of Fiery Furnace which is offered from March through to October. This hike is a bit challenging and lasts about three hours. For this hike and others it is advised that you wear good hiking boots. Open toed shoes are not advised on this or any hikes.
While pets are allowed at the Devils Garden Campground they are not allowed on the hiking trails. There are a lot of good reasons for this and the rough country side is not a particularly pet-friendly area. If you have pets with you it is best the leave at a place like Desert Doggie Daycare in nearby Moab. If you do bring a pet, it must be on a leash at all times when not in your vehicle.
Mountain biking is accommodated only on paved roads and bike trails. One can bike all the way from Moab to the park. Given that bikers must share the road it is advised to bike to the park early in the day as there is less vehicle traffic.
The Arches is a great place to visit. The rangers are friendly and very helpful. The photo opportunities are outstanding and everywhere. If you are planning a trip to the west or this part of the US, the Arches National Park is is one of the places you must see.
