Barstow is one of the best examples of a 'cross road' there is. The railroads meet here at a major rail yard. The highways meet here. Interstate 40 and I-15 intersect here including the famous Route 66.If you are coming from the north or east, it is the first sense of California that you get. Not much of a sense but you know that you are almost there. Located about an hour north of San Bernadino it is still in the by now familiar Mojave Desert but knowing the environment will change. That happens after you climb to the top of Cajon Pass you know that you are on the coast. Not exactly on the beach, but in the coastal environment. In the California you seee most oftem on TV.
